Home owner not worried by pool teetering on cliff edge

The owner of a New Zealand mansion whose infinity pool was left teetering on the edge of a cliff from storm damage caused by Cyclone Debbie is remaining calm.

Dramatic drone video shows how the cliff beneath part of the $5.2m property in Auckland's North Shore has collapsed leaving the pool in an apparently perilous state.

The footage shows how one end of the pool is unsupported, giving any lap swimmer a shock if they looked down.

But the owner of the mansion Doug Somers-Edgar insists there is no chance of it falling into the ocean, reports the New Zealand Herald.

Firefighters had reported "truck loads" of cliff had plunged after the remnants of Cyclone Debbie had blown through the Auckland region.

But Mr Somers-Edgar said the pool had been constructed with cliff stability in mind.

"The pool was built to take account of that. It's anchored back about 25m," he said.

Cliff erosion was also anticipated and he was well aware of that.

"Engineers said they expected it to recede about one metre every 100 years. It's just what you would expect."
