Plane overshoots runway and crashes on to Italian road

A cargo plane has had a slippery landing after overshooting a runway in Italy, landing onto the path of oncoming motorists.

The Boeing 737-400 from Paris reportedly lost control during landing at Bergamo’s Orio al Serio international airport in Northern Italy, temporarily closing down the airport from around 4am on Friday morning.

Images captured by motorists show the plane, belonging to courier DHL, dangerously close to the road after crashing through metal barriers.

No one was injured.

Local newspaperThe Corriere de la Serra said bad weather had hampered the flight.
