Pimp who stomped on man sues Nike for $100m

A US pimp who was jailed for stomping on a man’s face with a pair of Nikes is suing the footwear giant for $100 million claiming the shoes should have been labelled as a “dangerous weapon”.

Oregon man Sirgiorgiro Clardy was given a 100-year jail term for stomping on a man's face with his Nike Jordans after he failed to pay for a prostitute in 2012, among other crimes, NBC reports.

The victim survived the assault but required stitches and plastic surgery to recover.

In a handwritten submission filed with an Oregon court, 26-year-old Clardy claims Nike and its executives share responsibility for not warning consumers its product could be used as a weapon.

"Under product liability there is a certain standard of care that is required to be upheld by potentially dangerous product ..." Clardy wrote in his complaint.

"Do (sic) to the fact that these defendants named in this Tort claim failed to warn of risk or to provide an adequate warning or instruction it has caused personal injury in the likes of mental suffering."

Clardy claims he has tried to starve and kill himself multiple times after his imprisonment.

He is suing Nike for $100 million in damages and hopes to force the footwear giant to affix warning labels to all their "potentially dangerous Nike and Jordan merchandise".
