A 13-year-old Belgian teen is believed to be one of the children to have joined the Islamic State, following his brother to fight in the conflict in Syria.

Pictures have emerged of Younes Abaaoud posing with an AK-47 and there is growing concern that he has followed his older brother to the front line in Syria, the UK Telegraph reports.

He is believed to be one of many child fighters in the conflict zone.

Younes’ picture has been shared on Twitter hundreds of times around the world.

The teen's father, a shopkeeper originally from Morocco, said travelled to Syria after his 27-year-old brother Abdelhamid had been brainwashed in Belgium into joining the struggle, The Telegraph reports.

Shiraz Maher, an academic at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation, originally tweeted the picture of him.

The picture posted by Mr Maher is the second photograph reportedly showing Younes to surface online in weeks.

It follows a graphic image that appeared earlier this month of Australian terrorist Khaled Sharrouf's seven-year-old son holding a decapitated head.
