Pakistani police officer to face trial over Perth girl’s murder
An investigation into the killing of a nine-year-old Perth girl in Pakistan has firmly laid the blame on a police constable accused of shooting her.
Hania Ahmed was visiting family in Pakistan when she was killed in the capital city of Lahore on June 10, after local police officers pursuing armed robbers had mistaken the hire car she was in for the getaway car.

One officer opened fire on the rented Toyota, killing the girl and seriously injuring her brother and her father, Adeel Ahmad.
Local police said an officer fired his weapon believing he’d been shot at by thieves, but Ahmad claimed police shot first.
An inquiry into the shooting has now rejected the officer’s claim he was acting in self-defence, finding he was never given permission to open fire.
A formal trial is expected to start next month.
