Two suspects on the run after knife and shooting attack in Cologne

Police are hunting two men believed to be involved in a knife attack and shooting in Cologne.

A group of men were arguing before one of the men was stabbed in the thigh and shot while trying to flee to his car, German newspaper Koelner Express reported.

The shots hit the man’s car windows and deflated his tyres.

He was taken to hospital in a serious condition, according to national newspaper Die Welt.

The attack occurred just before 4am local time (midday AEST) on Flandrische Strasse, in the inner city.

Police reportedly detained two possible offenders, but two suspects are still believed to be at bay.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, but police said it was not believed to be terror-related.
