Obese woman 'broke into man's apartment and raped him'

An obese 26-year-old woman is facing rape charges after she allegedly broke into a man's apartment in the US city of Seattle, pinned him down and forced herself on him as he slept.

The 31-year-old alleged victim told police he did not personally know the accused woman, Chantae Gilman, but she was an acquaintance of a neighbour in his apartment complex, reports KOMO-TV.

On the night of the June 2013 attack, he had attended the neighbour's birthday party.

He went home alone and fell asleep on his bed but awoke at 2am to find Gilman - who weighs 110kg - on top of him and having sex, he told police.

She ignored the man's demands for her to get off him but he was eventually able to squeeze free from under her and force her out of his apartment.

He then went to a local medical centre for a sexual assault exam. A sample of Gilman's DNA later matched female DNA recovered from the sexual assault kit.

Gilman told police she did not remember having sex with the alleged victim and described herself as suffering from bipolar disorder and psychosis.

Police said she has been charged with second-degree rape for assaulting a victim "incapable of consenting to sexual intercourse by reason of being physically helpless".

Gilman faces court later this month.
