NYC 'cannibal rat' drags off morbid midnight feast on NYE

While human revellers were celebrating New Year's Eve above terra firma in Manhattan, a 'cannibal rat' was spotted dragging along a dead friend in the murky depths of New York City subway.

The furry grim reaper looks destined for viral Internet fame, following in the G-rated footsteps of Pizza Rat and Doughnut Rat, also residents of the famously gritty NYC metro.

YouTuber JB José says he shot footage of the rat hauling a lifeless carcass down a set of stair and along the platform shortly before midnight on New Year's Eve.

Unfazed with the growing attention of nearby humans, the determined rat drags his bounty along into a dark tunnel, prompting José to wonder if we'll ever know what happened.

Rats typically do not attack and kill one another unless the situation is dire and they are starving for food. Dead friends, however, are considered fair game and most definitely on the menu amongst the rat pack.
