News presenter tells viewers he has six months to live

A news presenter in the US has shocked viewers by announcing live on air that he may die within six months.

Fifty-one-year-old anchor Dave Benton told viewers that doctors had found a tumour too big to remove in his brain.

"I found out a few weeks ago that my brain cancer is back," he said.

"The new tumour is too big for surgery or radiation. I've decided to do an antibody treatment and some chemo to try to slow its growth.

"That's my best option."

Mr Benton said that doctors had told him that he had four to six months before things "get bad", and that he was going to keep working for as long as possible.

The broadcaster added that he was "at peace",and that he was grateful for the messages of support he had received from viewers.

He added that his Christian faith had helped him deal with the difficult experience.

"I believe that I am in God's hands. I'm at peace and I know that he's going to take care of the days ahead," he said. "The goal here is to have the best ones possible."
