Christchurch shooter sentencing delayed

The New Zealand High Court has pushed out the sentencing date for the Australian terrorist convicted of last year's Christchurch mosque shootings.

Last month, Brenton Tarrant admitted guilt for 51 murders and 40 attempted murders last month in an attack on two mosques.

The 29-year-old self-described fascist had previously maintained his innocence, only to reverse his plea in a hastily convened hearing.

The sentencing has been pushed out due to New Zealand's coronavirus restrictions, with the Court hoping to allow victims and their family members within the court.

On Thursday, Justice Cameron Mander released a minute announcing his intention to set a sentencing date at a callover hearing on June 2.

Tarrant, the first man convicted of a terrorism act in New Zealand, has been remanded until that date.
