A new over the counter pill kit available in the US this month claims to help women get pregnant.

Doctor Lara Oboler came up with the idea when she struggled to conceive.

“I knew I was healthy, I knew there was nothing wrong with me, but for some reason I wasn’t getting pregnant,” she told ABC News in the US.

The product, PregPrep, will become available in US chemists this month and contains two pills – one a multi vitamin and the other designed to thin mucus.

The latter pill aims to make it easier for sperm to reach a woman’s egg.

However, the pill has been criticised for its lack of scientific evidence.

“Treatments thinning the cervical mucus don’t have data supporting their efficacy,” Dr Alan Penzias, a reproductive endocrinologist said.

The product offers 14 pills designed to be taken over the course of one month.

The label describes PregPrep as a “dietary supplement”.
