New footage shows massive shockwave after airstrike hits weapons cache in Yemen

The destructive power of shockwave triggered by an explosion has been captured in newly released footage of a Saudi airstrike on a weapons cache in Yemen.

At least 69 people were killed and 250 others were wounded by explosions at a military base at Mount Noqum on the eastern outskirts of the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Tuesday.

The footage, shot from the window of a home kilometres away from the arms dump, starts with the airstrike blowing up the cache, which explodes spectacularly in silence.

The camera stays trained on the growing flames as the shockwave travels kilometres in seconds.

When it finally arrives after a tense few seconds it brings the loud boom of the blast and shatters windows.

Residents said the explosions continued for hours as rockets and other munitions were set off, showering neighbouring suburbs with shrapnel and erratic missile fire.

The depot was bombed again later in the day.

A five-day pause in the coalition bombing campaign was due to start at 11:00 pm Tuesday (local time) to allow the delivery of desperately needed relief supplies.
