Muzzled bear shows up at French disco in 'shameful' club promotion

The appearance of a "distressed" muzzled bear inside a French nightclub has led to howls of outrage on the internet.
Promoters from Scala in Guipry-Messac, Brittany used the bear as part of its circus night theme.
Pictures of the large brown beast, with its jaw strapped tight with a leather belt, were posted to the club's Facebook page and attracted immediate uproar.
"Look at his eyes the distress and incomprehension," Neal Collin wrote.
"This makes me so sick! Just like billions of animals which we kill and use until total exhaustion, until the death for our personal pleasure. It is shameful," he continued.
"Welcome to the middle ages," added another horrified commenter.
"Wild animals have got no place in a f--ing nightclub," wrote another Facebook user.
Facing petitions and calls for a boycott of the venue, the club responded in a Facebook video, claiming the "bear was born in captivity and had not been taken out of its natural environment".
The spokesperson said the bear would not be returning to the club.
