Muslim woman deliberately run over in Brussels

A Muslim woman has been deliberately run over during an anti-immigration protest in the Brussels suburb of Molenbeek.

Footage of the hit-and-run, which happened on Saturday, shows a white Audi bursting through a police roadblock and driving directly at the Hijab-wearing woman, who was crossing the street with shopping bags.

The woman was tossed over the bonnet of the car and into the road.

She was treated at the scene and later taken to hospital with injuries to her head and legs.

Two young men were in the car, with the man in the passenger seat photographed smiling and filming with his phone as the woman was mown down.

The men are still at large.

Hundreds of anti-Islam, police and anti-racism protesters clashed over the weekend in Molenbeek, which has been described as "the jihadi capital of Europe" after it emerged a number of terrorists linked to the Paris and Brussels attacks lived in the area.

Belgium, with a population of 11 million, is per capita Europe's biggest supplier of foreign jihadists to Syria, with more than 500 citizens leaving to fight since 2011.
