Trump-Russia inquiry zeroes in on bank records

Donald Trump’s banking records have been handed to special counsel Robert Mueller who is investigating alleged collusion between the president’s campaign team and Russia.

Following the orders of a subpoena, Deutsche Bank – one of the Trump Organisation’s biggest lender – handed over all documents concerning the Trump family, The Washington Times reports.

The German bank told Bloomberg they are cooperating with investigators.

Senior executives at the bank had previously refused similar requests from Democrat members of the House of Representatives.

Deutsche Bank said it would not comment on any of its individual clients.

But in a statement to NBC News it said: "[Our bank] takes its legal obligations seriously and remains committed to co-operating with authorised investigations into this matter."

Deutsche Bank provided millions of dollars to the Trump Organisation’s businesses in the early 2000s when it was spurned by US lenders.

Mueller is probing reported Russian attempts to influence the 2016 US presidential election and potential collusion by Trump advisers.

Russia has denied interfering in the election and Trump has said there was no collusion.
