A funeral in Germany ended on a high after mourners were accidentally served hash cake.

As is customary in the country, following the burial in Wiethagen three hours north of Berlin, mourners went to a restaurant for coffee and cake.

But the afternoon took a turn when 13 guests began feeling nauseous and dizzy.

A police investigation revealed an employee at the restaurant had inadvertently taken her daughter's hash cake rather than the one made for the funeral.

Police said the woman had asked her daughter to bake the cake for the funeral and when she got it from the freezer, picked out the wrong one.

The 18-year-old is now under investigation.

It is understood her daughter had cooked it for a different occasion.

The incident happened in August but was not made public earlier out of respect for the mourners.
