Motorcyclist mounts driver's boot after he failed to properly give way

A Los Angeles man is lucky to be alive after a driver failed to look before merging into the motorcyclist's lane of traffic.

Helmet camera footage of the accident was uploaded to the motorcyclist's YouTube channel in an attempt to raise awareness about the dangers of failing to adequately give way.

The motorcyclist is seen travelling in the carpool lane of a Los Angeles freeway, which is legal in the state of California.

The driver of a blue Toyota sedan is then seen cutting across multiple lanes of traffic and into the carpool lane, having failed to see the approaching motorcycle.

The motorcyclist hits the car at speed and is thrown onto its boot, which apparently goes unnoticed by the driver, who takes off.

The motorcyclist throws up his hands in exasperation before beginning to bang on the rear window of the car, yelling "stop, stop, stop, stop," before the driver finally does.

While the driver of the car winds down his window, he fails to even speak a word as the motorcyclist berates him.

"You know, I almost just died," the motorcyclist told the driver.

"My leg is f---ed right now, dude."

The motorcyclist claims the driver was in a rental car and bypassed the insurance paperwork.

"There were a lot of things wrong in this situation, this whole event could have been diverted if the driver had simply looked before illegally crossing the double yellow into the Carpool (HOV) lane," he wrote on YouTube.

It is unclear when the accident occurred and what injuries the motorcyclist sustained.
