'Superman' crashes to earth in bike stunt gone wrong

A US motocross rider learned the hard way that even Superman can crash to earth after a spectacular mishap while filming himself performing a stunt jump.

Freestyle style rider Mason Bozarth was attempting a high-risk "Superman" move, where a rider slips out of the seat and grabs the bike at arms length to fly through the air like the comic book superhero, when the trick went horribly wrong.

And this stunning footage gives viewers a gut wrenching view of what it's like to come unstuck.

Filming himself with a GoPro camera mounted on his bike, Bozarth hits the dirt jump and releases from the saddle as he flies through the air, several metres off the ground.

But just as he reaches out to grab hold of the seat, he loses his grip, with the bike flying away as he spins helplessly through a somersault and crashes back-first onto the dirt.

Fortunately, Bozarth escaped injury and was soon back hitting the jump to continue his daredevil antics.
