Model Chrissy Teigan under fire over Canada shooting wise crack

Model Chrissy Teigen has come under fire over a tweet linking the Canadian parliament shooting to America's lax gun laws.

A soldier guarding the National War Memorial in Ottawa was shot dead by a gunman who ran into the city's parliament building. He was later killed by police.

News of the shooting had only just begun trickling through to the public when Teigen, 28, took to Twitter writing: "Active shooting in Canada, or as we call in in America, Wednesday."

Several of her followers were quick to point out the poor timing of the tweet but Teigen was unrepentant, replying: "That's not a joke. It is a fact."

"Sorry you don't understand that is a knock at America and our issues with gun control. No one is minimizing the Ottawa shooting," she wrote.

"I'm not apologizing. If you take it wrong, that is your fault," she added.

Teigen, who is married to singer John Legend, eventually logged-off but not before tweeting the parting words: "Here comes twitchy!"
