Charges after woman 'sexually assaulted by mob' in Egypt

Seven men have been charged after a young woman was sexually assaulted by a mob in Egypt on New Year's Eve.

A confronting video of the alleged sexual assault shows dozens of men harassing and grabbing the screaming victim on a street in Mansoura, northeast of Cairo, amid New Year's celebrations.

Bystanders tried to defend the 20-year-old woman and eventually dragged her to safety as men brandishing sticks jumped on the car.

The suspects are between the ages of 18 and 20, according to local police.

Footage of the alleged attack was posted to Twitter where it attracted significant criticism.

The attack comes amid surveys that indicate the majority of Egyptian woman don't feel safe walking the streets following numerous mass sexual assaults during political protests.
