UFC champion Anderson Silva tests positive for steroids

One of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, Anderson Silva, has reportedly tested positive for drugs alongside his recent opponent Nick Diaz.

The revelation comes just days after Silva defeated Diaz in a successful comeback match from a career-threatening leg injury, MMA Kanvas has reported.

Silva, widely-regarded as one of the UFC's best, tested positive for Drostanolone, a common anabolic steroid, on January 10.

It is understood there will be further testing, but a statement issued by the UFC expressed "disappointment" in the initial results.

Diaz tested positive for marijuana on January 31.

It is the third time he has been caught out for the same offence, and he will face a disciplinary hearing on February 17.

Silva is expected to be handed a temporary suspension ahead of a full hearing.

Silva holds the longest title defence streak in UFC history, and has been named by UFC President Dana White as the greatest ever MMA fighter.
