'Miracle lake' in Tunisia could be radioactive

The 'miracle lake' which has appeared in Tunisia could be radioactive, experts have said.

The lake was discovered by shepherds south of the city of Gafsa about two weeks ago.

Local authorities have said the sudden emergence of the lake was probably caused by seismic activity.

Nearby residents have flocked to the lake, swimming in its waters and using the location as a place for family outings.

However, the Gafsa Public Safety Office has issued a warning for people to not enter the lake, for fears the water could be radioactive.

The statement said the land surrounding the lake was rich in phosphate, which could have contaminated the water.
