Jerusalem on the brink of religious war after synagogue attack

There are fears Jerusalem is on the brink of a religious war after a gruesome attack on worshippers at a synagogue yesterday.

Four Rabbis and a police officer were killed in the massacre, the deadliest attack in the city since 2008.

The distorted cracks of the gun battle rang out after two Palestinians burst in during morning prayers and launched a killing spree.

Ghassan and Oday Abu Jamal hunted down Jewish worshippers with an axe, a knife, and a pistol until they were shot dead by police.

British-Israeli citizen Avraham Goldberg was among the dead, while other victims included three Israeli-American nationals.

Their funerals were held just hours later as mourners crowded the city streets.

Palestinian leaders condemned the attacks, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Hamas for inciting violence.

His security forces fired tear gas as the family home of the attackers was raided and may now be destroyed.
