Melbourne university student on missing AirAsia flight

A Monash University student is among the 162 people on board the AirAsia flight feared to have crashed at sea.

Kevin Alexander Soetjipto was travelling from Indonesia to Singapore with relatives when the plane lost contact with air traffic control over the Java Sea on Sunday, News Corp reports.

Mr Soetjipto is originally from Malang in Indonesia and was reportedly living in Melbourne on a student visa.

Posts on social media reveal him as a young man who enjoyed meals out with friends and trips to the beach.

He embarked on a commerce course at Monash last year, after completing a foundation course, and was scheduled to finish in 2015.

A Monash spokeswoman last night said the university will offer counselling to his classmates.
