Mel Brooks pretends to pull down Barack Obama’s pants on live TV

Well-known for his humor, it seemed only apt that comedian, actor, director and entertainer Mel Brooks cracked a joke in his acceptance of the National Medal of the Arts and Humanities.

As the President of the United States places the prestigious medal around Brooks’ neck at the ceremony on Thursday, the 90-year-old pretended to pull down Obama’s pants.

Luckily, Obama saw the lighter side of the situation and laughed at the exchange.

After the ceremony Obama said “Mel Brooks kind of set the tone for this thing”, injecting humour for “a much more staid affair”, according to ABC US.

Brooks was granted the honour for providing “a life time of making the world laugh”, according to a White House statement.

He can add it to his collection which includes an Academy Award, an Emmy, a Tony and a Grammy.

Brooks starred in TV series The Comedians and as the voice of Albert Einstein in Mr Peabody & Sherman, as well as having roles in SpaceBalls and 70’s series, The Electric Company.

He also wrote The Producer, the Get Smart TV series and Spaceballs among numerous others.
