A team of medics in Colombia has been sacked after being caught on video 'twerking' next to a nude patient lying face-down on an operating table, according to reports.

The doctors and nurses, who were wearing scrubs in the video, appear to be mocking their unconscious patient as they dance around him, grinding next to him and laughing hysterically, at the Clinica Santa Cruz in northern Colombia.

The video recorded by a member of the operating team has caused outrage with people calling out the staff’s "unprofessional" behaviour.

Since the footage emerged, the clinic has reportedly fired five people involved, The Mirror reports.

In a statement, the clinic said it strongly regretted the embarrassing incident and had taken measures to avoid a similar situation occurring again.

"The respect for dignity of every patient is the most important thing in our clinic, therefore we strongly regret the inappropriate behaviour of those who are working as professionals in the health sector, seen in the video records in one of our surgery rooms… their actions are against the dignity of the patient and are breaking the protocols and the political values of our institution focused on the quality and humanisation of our service," the statement read.

The clinic also said this was the first time in seven years the hospital’s reputation had suffered such a blow.
