A matador who was gored in the mouth less than six months ago survived another brush with death when a bull weighing more than half a ton almost impaled him through the buttocks in Spain.

Peruvian Andres Roca Rey was dazzling crowds at La Maestranza bullring in Seville on Saturday when he failed to dodge the 533kg beast and paid the price.

A video of the incident shows the bull lift the matador into the air with its left horn as he thrashes about in vain.

Other matadors rush into the ring as the bull throws Roca Rey to the ground.

The bullfighter covers his head as his colleagues try and distract the raging bull.

The animal appeared to have impaled the matador through the buttocks but Roca Rey was lucky to escape with nothing more than a grazed thigh.

He performed a quick lap of honour before heading off to receive medical treatment.

The injury was a relatively minor one for Roca Rey who was gored through the mouth in November last year.

He lost two teeth in that incident but had false teeth fitted and was back in the ring before long.

His latest mishap won't keep on the sidelines for long either with a statement on his website saying he will return to fight on Tuesday.
