Man’s leg cramp channels horror film monstrosity
A Californian man has captured an agonising leg cramp on video, drawing comparisons to a scene from classic sci-fi horror film Alien.
La Puente resident Angele Bermudez posted the video of his pulsing calf, resting atop the dashboard of his car, to Facebook following a recent workout.
“Oh my God… It won’t stop,” he can be heard saying as he gasps in pain.
“I’m not doing anything.”
Mr Bermudez explains in the caption the “painful” cramp happened following a workout.
Reddit users have drawn comparisons to the famous “chestburster” scene from the James Cameron film Alien, which featured an alien organism violently forcing its way out of a man’s chest cavity.
Some users believed the cramp was most likely caused due to muscle fatigue or an electrolyte depletion.
“When the levels of salts in the blood is normal, they (muscles) function normally,” one user wrote.
“When they are too low, it changes the electrical potential of the muscle cell, which can cause the muscle to activate before your brain tells it to.”
One repost of the video has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.
