Two children are among 10 victims of a shooting on a busy Manchester street early Sunday (local time).

Police have indicated they were hit with pellet-like bullets during the attack.

Ten people were hospitalised after a man opened fire on a crowd of people celebrating a Caribbean Carnival festivities in the Moss Side area of Manchester.

Armed officers from Greater Manchester Police were called to the Claremont Road location at 2.30am local time and discovered several people had been shot.

There were a range of injuries with one man in a serious condition with leg wounds.

“Thankfully the injuries suffered do not appear to be as serious as first believed and hopefully people will begin to leave hospital over the course of the day following treatment," GMP’s City of Manchester division Chief Superintendent Wasim Chaudhry said.

He also said there may have been more injured and advised them to seek medical attention if that was the case.

“This was a reckless act that could have had devastating consequences with families and friends losing loved ones," he said.

Video apparently showing the aftermath of the incident was posted on social media.

The video shows a panicked group of people being helped by police.

As a voice cries out, shouts of "move" can be heard, while another voice asks "can you hear me?"

A number of people were in the area following the Caribbean Carnival, which had finished some hours before.

"We currently have a number of people in hospital all being treated for different injuries but thankfully most do not appear to be life-threatening at this time," Detective Superintendent Debbie Dooley said.

"Officers are trying to establish exactly where this incident took place and who is responsible for such a dangerous attack."

Police have deployed a "large number" of armed and unarmed officers in the area after the alarm was raised.
