A US comedian who thought he was renting his home to a family in town for a wedding was shocked when he learnt his house had been hired for a "triple-X freak fest" that allegedly caused more than $90,000 damage.

New York resident Ari Teman posted an ad for his Manhattan apartment on home renting website Airbnb , Gizmodo reports.

He handed the keys to a man named David in the afternoon but when he returned to the apartment at 11.30 after forgetting a bag he received an unpleasant surprise.

Teman said when he returned to the building he saw David in the lobby saying "they're shutting us down".

When he asked what he meant the comedian said he was greeted with a look of horror.

Teman then raced up to his apartment to find it trashed.

He searched David's number online and found an ad for an orgy dubbed the "BBW Panty Raid Party" with the same number David had provided to him.

Further online digging turned up a Twitter post advertising a "XXX Freak Fest" slated for his building.

The comedian wasn't laughing as he angrily kicked David out of house.

He is now seeking more than $70,000 from Airbnb and fears his landlord will evict him over the rowdy party.

Teman said a number of his objects and pieces of furniture were damaged or destroyed and all his clothes left at the home were mysteriously wet.

"I don't even want to know how it's wet," he wrote online.

'I enjoy a 'Festival' as much as the next fellow, but this is a family building and some people don’t enjoy having their neighbour’s worldly possessions tossed in a pile into the common area, while a group of strangers form a pile to have their private areas tossed. As such, I’m going to be evicted..

Teman had to call the police to evict up to 50 partygoers from his home.

Following complaints Airbnb has provided Teman with more than $25,000 and paid a locksmith to change the locks on his home.

The home rental firm is also paying for him to spend a week in a hotel.

Airbnb said they were "appalled" to learn of the incident in a statement.

"The individual who rented this space has been permanently removed from our site. We've reimbursed the host for damages to his apartment and ensured he has a new place to stay," Airbnb said.

"In the days ahead, we'll continue to work with the host to assist him with his additional needs and we will work cooperatively with any law enforcement agencies that investigate this matter."
