Man dies after sinkhole opens up underneath swimming pool in Israel
A man has died after a sinkhole opened beneath a backyard swimming pool in Israel.
The Times of Israel reported the man had been dragged under when the sinkhole opened up during a get-together at a private home on Thursday afternoon local time (about midnight AEST) in the town of Karmei Yosef.
A rescue operation unfolded over four hours but the man was found dead.

Another man who was dragged into the hole managed to escape with minor injuries.
Rescue teams said the search was complicated due to fears of a secondary collapse.
Supports to prevent the pool from caving in further had to be put in place before the man's body was found.

One witness told Israeli news outlet Ynet that the victim had gone under in just seconds, and that there could have been more casualties but only six people were in the pool at the time.
Police are now investigating the deaths, including whether the pool was operating under proper licensing.
