WA man found dead in Uganda hotel room

A Western Australian man who reportedly worked in an African gold mine has been found dead in a hotel in Uganda.

Local police said the man, identified as 30-year-old Christopher David Kirkman, had been working in the Democratic Republic of Congo and was in Uganda on a transit route to Australia.

Uganda Police Metropolitan spokesman Patrick Onyango said Mr Kirkman arrived at Entebbe airport in Uganda, booked into the hotel and later collapsed in his room, AAP reports.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was giving consular assistance to the family of a 30-year-old man.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
