Man divorces wife on wedding night

Marriages often fail but a groom in Saudi Arabia may have set a new record by deciding to divorce his wife on their wedding night after discovering intimate pictures sent by her former lover.

The pair were celebrating their nuptials at a hotel when the man discovered that he had received a memory stick from his wife’s ex containing revealing photos of her.

Religious preacher Abdul Aziz al Shammari said the man divorced the women on the spot, adding man was under "strong emotional trauma".

“The groom came to see me [the next day]... it was truly the shock of his life and he could not bear the scandal,” he said.

The rejected lover had allegedly blackmailed the woman, threatening to leak the photos if she refused to be in a relationship with him.

She told him she had no interest in the man and that she was getting married.

Seemingly unable to take the rejection he sent the groom a bouquet of flowers and a letter telling him to look at the photos on the memory stick.

The preacher reported the event on a Kuwaiti television channel but refused to identify the nationalities of the couple or specify where the events unfolded.
