Almost-hero tackles armed shopper

A would-be hero in the US has been arrested after he spear-tackled and tried to perform a citizen's arrest on a fellow Walmart shopper who was legally carrying a gun.

Michael Foster, 43, followed 62-year-old Clarence Daniels from the car park into a Brandon, Florida Walmart after spotting a handgun holstered beneath his coat.

Store surveillance footage shows Mr Foster tackling Mr Daniels from behind and placing him in a choke-hold on the floor in an attempted citizens' arrest.

Mr Foster yells that the man has a gun as he struggles to hold down his elder opponent.

Meanwhile, Mr Daniels can be heard repeatedly telling the vigilante that he has done nothing wrong and has a permit for the weapon.

Both men were detained until authorities arrived and were able to confirm that Mr Daniels in fact did hold a concealed weapons permit.

Mr Foster, who did not call police before launching his attack, was taken into custody and has been charged with battery.
