A US man has been arrested after he was filmed leaving his five-year-old daughter in near freezing conditions on a university campus.

Adrian Justin Sanchez, 41, was caught on camera abandoning Acelynn at the entrance of the Ogden Weber Applied Technology College in Utah at around 5am on October 9. The temperature outside was less than four degrees Celsius, Utah’s Deseret News reports.

A security guard found Acelynn in tears at 7.30am and reunited her with mother Gena Weaver.

Sanchez, who has court-ordered visitation rights to Acelynn, had requested that she spend the night with him at his mother’s house.

Weaver told KUTV Sanchez wanted to take his daughter to a house where he wanted to do drugs.

But Sanchez’s mother, Acelynn’s grandmother, refused to let him.

Sanchez then allegedly woke the girl in the middle of the night and took her to the campus where he abandoned her.

Security footage shows Acelynn, who was wearing pyjama leggings, a shirt and shoes, briefly falling asleep in a makeshift bed made from her blankets.

She can also be seen trying to open a door to one of the buildings and looking around for someone to help her.

Sanchez is facing a felony charge of child abuse by abandonment.
