When Matthew DeRemer wrote a heartfelt post on Facebook this New Year’s Eve, he would have had no idea it would go on to be read by more than 46,000 people.

Mr DeRemer shared how he had lost loved ones, made new friends and overcome challenges in 2015, and that he was looking forward to the “works to be done” in 2016, just hours before he died after he was allegedly hit by a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle.

Alongside his post was a poignant quote that read “we are born in one day. We die in one day. We can change in one day. And we can fall in love in one day. Anything can happen in just one day”.

The post has since received more than 46,000 likes and has been shared more than 16,000 times.

The driver of the car has reportedly been charged with DUI manslaughter, Today.com reports.
