A nightclub in Macau has been slammed as "insensitive" for its plans to host a school massacre-themed Halloween party.

The much-hyped event is promoted in a bloody minute-long video, featuring haunted hallways and janitor's cupboards, and people in school uniform hiding beneath their classroom desks.

It even has the catchphrase, the "last class you'll ever take".

The club, located in Macau, one of two special administrative regions in China, defended the evening as a celebration, saying every year they "try to find a story and create an experience for customers".

But many people have called for the event to be pulled because of recent events in the US.

"The ad shows a complete lack of respect for those who went through such traumatising events, namely in the US and China," Macau resident Pedro Lobo told the South China Morning Post.

"This sort of trivialisation of violence, particularly in schools, does concern me."

The resident's views were share by University of Macau criminologist Professor Li, who labelled the evening a "very insensitive one".

Last week, two people were killed and three remain critically injured after a student opened fire at a Marysville high school in the United States before turning the gun on himself.

There have also been attacks carried out in schools in China with two killed and 11 injured in the most recent shooting in March.
