Loyal dog keeps watch over friend hit by car

A dog has been captured on camera standing guard over another dog - killed outside a cemetery in south-west Dallas - in a touching display of loyalty.

The heartbreaking image, which shows a Great Pyrenees sitting by the kerb before the battered body of its companion, was shared to the Facebook page of Samuel Flores on November 9.

The surviving dog has since been taken into the care of Dallas Animal Services and attempts have been made to locate his owner.

“He was just kind of sitting guard, like a statue, just sitting there watching over his friend’s body,” animal advocate Julie Fennell told NBCDFW.

“It looks like [the other dog] was hit on the road [and that the surviving dog then] dragged her up onto the grass."

The surviving dog will remain with the Dallas Animal Services for 72 hours, before being released to a local rescue group.
