London police are on the hunt for a driver who mowed down a woman as she walked on a zebra crossing and fled the scene.

The woman was walking across a road in Dagenham, in London’s East, in April 2014 when the black Ford Ka smashed into her at speed and drove off without stopping.

Two years later, police say the victim’s life has been turned upside down and they still have no leads on who the driver was.

The unnamed victim, who was 25 at the time, was left with a fractured skull and collar bone.

She has undergone two operations and is still recovering.

"Police have conducted extensive enquiries to trace who was responsible for this collision," Detective Constable Liz Carrey said.

"This has been a life changing experience for the victim; both physically and mentally.

"The victim was seriously injured and she would like some closure to help her come to terms with the incident.

"We know the car has been scrapped, but someone may have seen it damaged or the driver of the car may even have spoken about what happened.

"I would ask anyone who has information to search their conscience and contact police."
