Kid schools Roger Federer in New York exhibition match

Roger Federer has faced a plethora of prodigies and rising stars during his long and storied career.

But the Swiss master was left genuinely shocked after being outpointed by a young boy during a recent exhibition match in New York.

Federer was in the midst of a clash with Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov at Madison Square Garden, when the youngster was called from the stands to play a point with the 17-time grand slam winner.

Clad in jeans and a hoodie, the boy received a challenging serve from the former world No.1, before engaging in a playful rally, where he drew the veteran into the net.

Then with the sort of touch that Federer has made famous, the young upstart coolly lobbed the 33-year-old to win the point.

The shot was greeted with rapturous applause from the crowd and Dimitrov, while Federer appeared clearly surprised and typically good natured.

And while the boy's identity remains unknown, we can only surmise the footage will be trotted out in years to come should he one day become a genuine threat on the ATP circuit.

Either way, the boy has a magical memory from his night at the tennis and a lifetime of bragging to his mates.
