Jet skier runs over humpback whale

A jet skier in Iceland has been filmed getting a little too up-close-and-personal with a humpback whale and accidentally running over the huge ocean mammal.

Brynjar Thor Gunnarsson told Iceland’s Visir news website today that he and his jet ski partner were just about to go home after a long day out on the fjord when they spotted several whales.

Mr Gunnarsson said they immediately headed over to the leviathans to take a closer look.

Footage shows Mr Gunnarsson ride the jet ski straight towards the whale before colliding with it.

The Icelander said he turned around to look at his friend and when he did the whale popped up right in front of him, giving him no time to steer away from it.

The whale was not hurt, Mr Gunnarsson said.
