Jet ski rider runs into rocks

A Californian jetskier's ride almost turned deadly after he accidentally rode a giant wave right into rocks.

The rider and his passenger were taking on the notorious "Wedge" surf area off Newport Beach on Saturday when he lost control.

In the face of unseasonably big swells, the two got thrown off the jet ski and swept into the surf, and struggled in the dangerous waves for a few minutes before lifeguards leaped into action and plucked them out.

The pair came through the ordeal unscathed, the jet ski was not so fortunate.
