She is one of Hollywood's highest paid actresses but Jennifer Lawrence is turning her back on Hollywood for a year to spend 12 months on sabbatical as an activist.

The Oscar winner and Hunger Games star is taking time away from the limelight to encourage more young people to be "engaged politically" according to Entertainment Tonight.

J-Law is set to spend a year working with the group Represent.Us along with director David O Russell.

"It doesn't have anything to do with partisan politics," Lawrence told ET of her involvement with the non-profit organization.

"It's just anti-corruption and stuff trying to pass state by state laws that can help prevent corruption, fix our democracy."

The 27-year-old is on the final leg of a global tour promoting her latest film Red Sparrow.

This will not be Lawrence's first foray into the world of social activism, with the actress participating in the Women's March in Los Angeles last month.

Lawrence was also one of the first actresses to address the Hollywood wage gap in 2015.
