Israeli PM gives German Chancellor a Hitler moustache

A photo snapped by a newspaper photographer shows Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu inadvertently giving German Chancellor Angela Merkel a Hitler moustache, according to amused internet users.

The picture taken in Jerusalem shows Mr Netanyahu pointing at something to the side of the German head of state.

The shadow from his finger is cast across Ms Merkel's upper lip, appearing to give her what is known as a toothbrush moustache.

The picture, taken by Jerusalem Post reporter Marc Israel Sellem, has gone rapidly viral.

"Angela Merkel did Nazi this one coming," news website Gawker joked in its headline.

But the Jerusalem Post is not amused by the photo.

"Just want to clarify that none of the higher-ups at JPost are pushing that picture. It's not on our site and won't be in the newspaper," reporter Lahav Harkov tweeted.

The press conference was held to discuss more sombre matters, such as boycotts on products made in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and the potential threat of Iran.
