So wide and varied was Robin Williams' appeal ISIS fighters have even Tweeted their condolences following the comedian's death.

Islamic militants were among those who took to Twitter after the 63-year-old's sudden death went public on Monday.

Immediately after learning of his death Twitter user @mujihadi4life, who goes by the name of Abdullah wrote: "#RobinWilliams is dead? Weird. Grew up watching his movies," before the self-described activist renamed Williams' hit-movie Jumanji as "Jumanjihadi".

In response to fellow ISIS militant user @Ibn_Fullan's Tweet: "Shame. I liked Jumanji," Abdullah wrote: "good movie. Loved it as a kid."

@Ibn_Fullan's account has since been deleted.

When other Twitter users expressed their disbelief that Abdullah was openly discussing his love of Williams' films, another Islamist with the Twitter handle @ShishaniOmar wrote: "We are humans like you, joke about girls... why we shouldn't see movie? [Sic]"

The exchange saw the Islamist fighters enter into a debate about movies, with Abdullah answering a number of questions on his all-time favourite films.

"So, looks like all you have to do it support #IS and like movies to make the news," Abdullah later tweeted.

But Abdullah's mind quickly changed after fellow Islamic militants posted video of Williams mocking jihadists during a stand-up performance.

"Those that say ‘RIP’ to #RobinWilliams check out what he had to say about Islam ... May Allah make him burn," he wrote in Tweet sharing the clip.
