ISIL jihadists say Jake Bilardi 'sold his soul for a cheap price'

Melbourne teenager Jake Bilardi has received some backhanded praise from Islamic State after apparently carrying out their suicide bombing in Iraq.

The 18-year-old's actions were celebrated on ISIL's propaganda website in a post titled as the story of Abu Abdullah Al-Austrālī, the name Bilardi adopted after travelling to the Middle East and joining ISIL.

The post offers the Craigieburn high school dropout some praise as a devout Muslim who prays and fasts often.

But the post also describes Bilardi as having "a weak body" and having "sold his soul for a cheap price", the Herald Sun reports.

"He was a lion on the battlefield although he was at a young age & with a weak body, he was like a mountain," the post read.

"This brother originated from an atheist family & ended up selling his soul to Allah for a cheap price, to … give victory to this religion."

Bilardi, who fled to the Middle East last year, reportedly died in a suicide mission targeting the Iraqi armed forces at Ramadi in central Iraq last week.

The Iraqi army has said the attack was a failure, causing only his own death and damage to a few vehicles.
