Is this soccer's worst open goal miss of all time?

This is the stuff of nightmares.

Dennis van Duinen has come up with an open goal miss that even the most ardent football fan will struggle to top.

Poor finishing may explain why he’s plying his trade in the Dutch fourth division.

But many viewers will fancy they would have been able to put this one away.

The Harkemase Boys striker does well initially to beat two defenders and get the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

The ball rebounds kindly and rolls towards the empty goal.

But somehow van Duinen manages to blast over from less than ten metres out.

He stands, quite rightly, with his head in his hands.

And guess what, his team lost, 3-2.
