An Indian woman has been filmed chasing and kicking the man who allegedly assaulted her as she jogged through the streets of Bangalore.

Veena Ashiya Chindlur was on her daily run through Jayanagar Seventh Block on Friday morning when she said 30-year-old K R Suryaprakash started harassing her.

But instead of letting the incident pass, she decided to take him on.

The footage filmed by a friend shows Ms Chindlur chasing her attacker and making him kneel on the ground as she kicks him.

A cowering Suryaprakash does not try to shield the blow and with his head bowed, repeats "I'm sorry".

"Around 9.30am my friend and I were jogging when he made strange noises and eve-teased me (an Indian term for public sexual harassment or molestation)," Ms Chindlur told the Bangalore Mirror.

"I tried to scare him by running after him.

"He tried to flee, but I chased him and hit him. However, he managed to escape."

Such attacks are common throughout India's sprawling cities, but Ms Chindlur said many women feel powerless to act.

She posted the video to Facebook with the message: "I am posting this video for women to know that change will happen only when we want it to happen!"

Suryaprakash was tracked by police using the footage 40 minutes after Ms Chindlur reported the incident.
