Indian man put into freezer pronounced dead a second time
A 74-year-old Indian man who was put in a freezer for 20 hours after being mistakenly declared dead has now died.
Balasubramaniam Kumar, from Tamil Nadu, was taken to hospital last week where he was pronounced dead, though the cause of that diagnosis has not been revealed.
A mortuary freezer was delivered to his family's home to preserve his body before the ceremonial funerary rites, Insider reported.
But a funeral worker who arrived the next day to collect the body noticed the man still moving.
A video broadcast on Indian TV channel NDTV showed the worker pointing out the movement, to which the man's brother allegedly responded with a confirmation Kumar had died.
After he was rescued, Kumar was taken to a different hospital where he died of lung-related issues, the BBC reported.
His family was allegedly unable to produce a death certificate regarding the initial hospital's pronouncement.
Police are investigating.
