An impatient US driver has shown exactly why you should never try to overtake on a blind turn.

In a single rash move that police say violated five different road rules, driver Samuel Borschuk can been seen on dashcam footage swerving past the car in front of him in Rhode Island on November 9, NBC 10 News reports.

With just a fraction of a second to spare the 25-year-old hurtles back over the double line to avoid several oncoming cars by centimetres.

But Mr Borschuk then immediately loses control of his car and crashes into a tree.

The impact of the crash knocked the tree down and totalled his car, but Mr Borschuk suffered only minor injuries in the crash.

The driver can be seen on the dashcam gingerly climbing out of his car window after the crash.

Police say Mr Borschuk was driving at 65km/h in a 40km/h zone.
